Ryan Frank takes the ‘office’ out of office furniture

Sustainability and multi-functionality are effortlessly integrated by designer Ryan Frank in his debut office furniture collection, which will be on show on the 5th of October 2012 during Barcelona Design Week 2012.
The collection consists of a workstation and shelving unit made from a delightful mix of renewable materials such as, bamboo and steam-bonded Spanish cork.

The workstation’s steel frame offers a ‘built to last’ structure with a silky smooth solid bamboo work surface.
The workstation’s structure extends into a multi-use ‘hang-space’ for all those jackets, bags, helmets, plants, earphones that inevitably clutter valuable desk space.
An additional feature to help de-clutter the desk, is a slender, arms reach away shelf above a thumbtack friendly cork pinboard.

Bamboo is a grass, its flexible, light, robust and it grows exceptionally fast.
It does not require replanting after harvesting because its vast root network continually sprouts new shoots, soaking up greenhouse gases and converting them to new green growth. Bamboo does all this without the need for petroleum heavy tractors and poisonous pesticides and fertilizers.

Cork is harvested from the cork oak (Quercus suber ) and is a completely sustainable resource grown in the Mediterranean region of Europe. Cork biodegrades or can be readily recycled without creating any significant secondary waste.
The bark of the cork oak is stripped every seven to nine years leaving the tree intact and able to grow more cork for future use.
Cork forests sequester an estimated 10 million tons of CO2 annually and is a valuable habitat for endangered species and migratory birds.

A range of objects can easily be stacked in the ample shelving space, while a set of chunky hooks buckled along a length of jute webbing provide a fun and functional way to suspend a multitude of un-stackable objects.

As with all of Franks designs these products are designed with disassembly and material separation in mind. No glues, only screws and healthy timeless materials are used to make this workstation/storage doublet.
